Circles

Circles was composed during the summer of 2021, amidst the emergence of the Brood X Cicadas. In preparation for its premiere, students rehearsed outside as the cicadas circled and sometimes landed on their instruments.  Drawing from minimalism and repetition, students will play small motifs to create larger patterns. The first violin and viola parts provide extra challenges for more advanced players within the string orchestra, while the violin 2 and cello parts provide the sustained foundations.
