“Tempestuous” is a piece inspired by Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and it was originally composed for an extended range vibraphone, and later adapted for the three-octave vibraphone, all of which are included in this score. Naturally, “Tempestuous” uses dissonant harmony as well as asymmetrical and changing meter to depict tense thoughts and images in the music.
